Mechanical Engineering

Member of USG Team Since 2005

USG is a very solid and well-run company with a strong presence in the manufacture and distribution of many different products.  That diverse manufacturing strength is one of the things that interested me in working for the company.  I started my USG career working in metals and now I’m involved in manufacturing cementitious fiberglass products.  It’s very gratifying to have opportunities to work in different areas, which allows me to create an invigorating and well-rounded career.

At many other corporations, engineers do not have the opportunity to experience what is beyond the cubicle walls.  USG offers a very hands-on approach to developing your skills as an engineer.  You get a lot of responsibility right out of school and receive the training, tools and support to achieve your career goals.  USG has provided me with the opportunity to excel and do what I do best even better.

My primary responsibility is to ensure top-to-bottom quality and safety in the plant’s Quality/Loading Department.  Among other duties, I supervise and develop the skills of employees, and manage any employee relations issues.  I also lead a number of interesting, cutting-edge special projects such as creating specialized automated process control systems on the manufacturing line.  I’m also working on a complex detection system to identify any product flaws, and installing a new dry material feed system to transport dry material from our silos to the mixing stations on the manufacturing line.

One of the words that best describes USG employees is supportive.  Everyone works well together and is genuinely interested in seeing you succeed. That’s something I’ve really come to appreciate.  I really like my job, but the people I work with have a big impact on how happy and successful I am on the job.

I enjoy the different perspectives on life and work that my co-workers bring to the plant.  Our diverse workforce enables us to address issues in new and unique ways that encourage us to consider and implement the most robust business ideas to help the company become even more successful.

I set high expectations for myself and never sell myself short on what I can accomplish through hard work.  I also strive to keep everything in perspective and focus only on what is truly important in life.  Family is important; so are relationships with co-workers.  I will never compromise my integrity and professionalism at work, nor the commitment I have to my family and friends.

I like physically challenging sports that get me outside and into nature.  I enjoy whitewater rafting and have climbed sheer ice walls and rappelled down waterfalls in the Swiss Alps.  Most people will never get to enjoy nature in these kinds of situations, and I’m thankful I not only have the physical ability, but the time and opportunity to experience these wonderful things in my life.
