Safety

Safety is our first and most important core value. USG has been committed to the safety of our employees, customers and the communities where we live and do business since our beginning.  USG staked an early claim on safety, documenting some of our first rules and policies in 1910, and we were a charter member of the National Safety Council in 1914.

In 2016, we earned the National Safety Council’s Robert W. Campbell award, one of the world’s most respected celebrations of safety-first culture, for our excellence in environmental, health and safety (EHS) management.  In awarding USG the Campbell award, the National Safety Council commented on how deeply our employees are involved in our safety culture and how much ownership employees feel for keeping themselves and their colleagues safe.

Today, we’re proud that our plants operate 12 times more safely than the industry average. Just some of the recognition we’ve earned for our safety performance includes:

  • Alabama’s Safest Manufacturer (2019)
  • Wisconsin Safety Council’s Corporate Safety Award (six times)
  • Canada’s Safest Manufacturing Employers (2016 and 2017)
  • EHS Today’s America’s Safest Companies (2015)
  • OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Star (14 locations)
  • National Mining Association Sentinels of Safety (15 times)
