USG Goes for Gold in Award-Winning Healthcare Project

The Ceilings and Interior Systems Construction Association (CISCA) has announced its 2024 Construction Excellence Awards winners. USG is proud to receive a Gold Award for a recent USG Ceilings® healthcare project!

CISCA is the leading authority for information on the interior construction, acoustical ceilings, and acoustical treatment industry. CISCA’s annual Construction Excellence Awards highlight many of the great construction projects across the nation that utilize unique and innovative ceiling solutions to meet and overcome the challenges that arise on the jobsite.

USG is honored to receive recognition at CISCA's 2024 Construction Excellence Awards for the following project:

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center—College Hill

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s new addition required a high-performance ceiling solution that simplified installation and maintained aesthetics while housing its patients in a place of comfort, healing, and privacy.

Project stakeholders would require a proven team of Contractors, Distributors, and Manufacturers to assist in bringing these qualities to the space. Messer Construction built a team capable of providing the highest levels of craftmanship and performance, all while delivering on the initial aesthetics set by GBBN at the onset of this project. The project team consisted of Triversity Craft Force, Cincinnati Interiors, Valcom Enterprises, L&W Supply, Foundation Building Materials, and USG Ceilings.

Main Lobby

USG joined the project team and was tasked with taking the design for the main lobby from concept to reality. This vision included a room designed with custom curved walls, transitioning into a grand cylinder skylight.

With support from USG’s technical team, the USG Donn® Brand Rapid RTQ drawing and estimating services for non-standard suspension system products was able to provide a bill of materials and shop drawings while laying out step-by-step instructions for installation of the custom curved drywall grid feature.

Upon entering the main lobby, the clean, smooth aesthetic and premier sound performance provided by USG Mars™ Acoustical Ceiling Panels introduces a sense of calmness and security for patients, their families, and hospital employees alike.

Patient Rooms

The design intent for individual patient rooms located on three separate floors was a smooth, monolithic ceiling with excellent acoustical performance; USG Ensemble® Acoustical Drywall Ceiling would be the answer. Eager to assist from the start of the design process, USG representatives set up a mock installation of the USG Ensemble® Acoustical Drywall Ceiling for the installing contractors to better prepare for a seamless installation on the jobsite.

Ensuring that installation could begin according to schedule, USG and distribution partners L&W Supply and Foundation Building Materials coordinated delivery of materials without impacting the construction schedule. And once the ceiling installation phase began, USG’s commercial and contractor representatives were available on-site to ensure things were running smoothly, answering questions and providing guidance along the way.

Only through a concerted team effort was this collaborative project able to achieve a ceiling system that exceeded in performance and aesthetics with streamlined installation to keep the construction schedule intact. Thank you to the entire team for making this award-winning project a reality!
