The Eagle Mountain High School project was an ambitious new project to build a 600-thousand-square-foot building, providing the Fort Worth, TX community with the largest high school in the district, featuring academic wings, outdoor dining areas, fine arts spaces, and athletic facilities.

USG engaged with VLK Architects in design discussions early in the project timeline to coordinate details on a visually striking ceiling system across a variety of areas to match the impressive capabilities across the campus, including classrooms, the cafeteria &and its kitchen, and various open entry areas. This collaboration ensured that the design vision could be met and exemplifies USG’s holistic approach towards becoming a true partner in the process, incorporating a range of technical assistance from bid to jobsite installation.

With technical support from USG, the project team was able to devise a solution utilizing a combination of specialty and acoustical ceiling tile products that helped achieve the aesthetics and heightened acoustic qualities required of the ceiling system. USG’s staff of mechanical, civil, and architectural engineers helped guide the project along, streamlining design research, project development, and estimations to ensure the highest quality product was delivered.

The project faced its biggest challenge when several shipping delays impacted the light fixtures that needed to be installed within the USG Paraline® Plus Linear Metal System. This stalled the progress on the ceiling system drastically and left only a fraction of the anticipated days for installation. Despite this, easy handling and installation features provided by USG’s solution allowed the ceiling system to be completed on time, even in the face of unexpected delays and a condensed schedule.

The ceiling system was able to achieve the design vision while balancing economic and aesthetic demands. This project was only made possible through cross-sector collaboration, ultimately delivering a state-of-the-art educational facility on time for the start of a new school year.
