Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Year Built: 2011
Architect: HDR
The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was designed to be a striking landmark, giving voice to its pursuit as a center for advanced medical care. Aesthetically, the building's village-based layout aimed to build a sense of warmth, healing and community.
The 2.7 million-square-foot project underwent several challenges, the most significant occurring in June 2011 when 20,000 workers were scheduled to be on-site, but the product arrived without the necessary quality certificates. Working under a tight deadline, USG was able to deliver the roughly 11 million square-feet of SHEETROCK® Brand Mold Tough® Gypsum Panels necessary to continue work on the project. To meet this demand as many as 30 containers of wallboard were shipped to Abu Dhabi each week with careful logistical consideration given to make sure there was never too little or too much product at the jobsite at any one time.
