Location: New York, NY
Year Built: 2013
Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
More than a decade after the tragic events of September 11th, ultra high-rise construction soars again at the site of the old World Trade Center. Designed by David M. Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the 105-story One World Trade Center will be America's tallest building.
Continuing the a long tradition of American ingenuity in high-rise construction, the One WTC will incorporate advanced life-safety systems that exceed New York City building code requirements. To ensure this, more than 7-million-sq.-ft. of USG Sheetrock® Brand Cavity Shaft Wall Systems and products make up the core of the One and Four WTC buildings. This system provides the strength to withstand lateral loads in addition to providing fire protection to elevator shafts, stairwells, and the other vertical shafts that make up the lifeline of a building.
The two buildings opened in 2013 and mark an innovative mix of structure, urban design, safety, sustainability and American architecture.
