A water-resistant underlayment that delivers support for hardwood, ceramic tile, carpeting and more in homes or light commercial building. Fiberock® Brand Underlayment represents a new era in substrate performance for wet or dry areas. It has an integral water-resistant composition that offers durability, superior performance and exceptional tile bond that is not susceptible to the same warping often found in traditional wood underlayment.

Main Features

Fiberock® Brand Underlayment provides a smooth, flat surface that resists swelling and contains none of the resins, adhesives or solvents that can stain floor covering materials. It also offers greater resistance to indentation than other underlayment products and can be used in all areas — wet or dry — regardless of the flooring material chosen.

  • Can Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ Underlayment be used below grade?

    In interior basement finishing applications over wood or metal framing yes; however, not direct ground contact applications.

  • What type of fasteners should be used for Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ Underlayment?

    Hot-dipped galvanized roofing nails, ring shanked, or Durock™ Brand Wood Screws.

  • Can Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ Underlayment or Tile Backerboard be used in a wet area?

    Yes. Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ Underlayment and Tile Backerboard are both recommended in areas where protection against mold and moisture is needed. These products are ideal for residential shower applications were versatility is needed, these panels can be tiled and painted for added installation convience.

  • What is the best way to secure Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ Underlayment to a sub floor?

    Apply Fiberock® panels to subfloor using 1/4" x 1/4" square notch trowel with Type 1 organic adhesive or latex-modified thin-set mortar or dry-set mortar. Fasten to subfloor with 1-1/4" Durock™ brand tile backer screws for wood framing (or equivalent) or 1-1/2" hot-dipped galvanized roofing nails spaced 8" o.c. in both directions withperimeter fasteners at least 3/8" and less than 5/8" from ends and edges.

  • How should I store leftover Fiberock® Brand Panels and Underlayment?

    Store Fiberock® indoors and protected from the elements. Protect them from extreme heat and cold and do not expose to direct sunlight.

  • Can Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ Underlayment be used in gang showers, saunas, or steam rooms?

    No. This product should never be used in areas that are exposed to continuous moisture, or heat exceeding 125 degrees.

  • Is it possible to affix ceramic tile to Fiberock® Aqua-Tough™ interior panels?

    Yes, Fiberock® Underlayment Tile Backerboard and Fiberock® Aqua-Tough™ interior panels are ideal substrates for ceramic tile and/or paint.
