Overview

Overview

Available in 5/16 in. (7.9 mm), 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) and 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) thicknesses, Sheetrock® Brand MH Gypsum Base Board is specially designed for the Manufactured Housing and Modular Housing industries, meeting the needs of time sensitive construction and structural integrity. The panels are third-party system-tested to ensure compliance with HUD Manufactured Home Construction Standard, are listed as to shear resistance by Progressive Engineering Inc., Product Evaluation Report PER-01146, and may be fastened with a two-part polyurethane adhesive, a one-part polyurethane adhesive, PVA adhesive, mechanical fasteners or a combination of adhesive and mechanical fasteners, offering greater construction flexibility and superior performance. The panels feature a noncombustible gypsum core that is encased in 100% recycled face and back papers. The face paper is folded around the square long edges to reinforce and protect the core, and the ends are cut square and even.

q & a

  • How do I properly store Sheetrock® Brand MH Gypsum Panels at the job site?

Place board inside, under cover and stacked flat on a clean floor in the centers of the largest rooms. All materials should remain in their packaging until ready for actual use. Place gypsum boards intended for use on ceilings on top of the pile since they will be used first. Do not stack long length boards on top of short length boards.

  • What is the maximum spacing allowed between gypsum panels over framing?

The maximum space allowed between panels is 1/8 of an inch. Any space larger can lead to problems with joint finishing cracking.

  • Can gypsum panels be installed horizontally?

Gypsum panels can be installed horizontally or vertically. Installing the board horizontally lessens the total amounts of joints to be taped by 25%.

  • Can I store Sheetrock® Brand Gypsum Panels outside?

Sheetrock® Brand Gypsum Panels must be protected from exposure to excessive or continuous moisture and the elements before, during and after installation. Storing outdoors uncovered is not recommended.

  • What is the recommended fastener spacing for attaching gypsum panels to walls and ceilings in non-fire-rated assemblies?

When nailing to wood construction the spacing is 7 inches for ceilings, and 8 inches for walls. When screwing into wood and steel framing the spacing is 12 inches on ceilings and 16 inches for walls. Refer to the relevant fire test to determine fastener type and spacing.

  • Are your Sheetrock® Brand MH Gypsum Panels shear-rated?

Yes, refer to Progressive Engineering Inc. Product Evaluation Report PER-01146.

  • What is the maximum temperature that Sheetrock® Brand Gypsum Panels can withstand?

Sheetrock® Brand Gypsum Panels can withstand temperatures up to 125°F.

  • What is the recommended spacing of control joints for gypsum panels for walls and ceilings?

The maximum recommended control joint spacing for walls and ceilings without perimeter relief is 30 feet. With perimeter relief the maximum recommended control joint spacing is 50 feet.

  • What is the recommended application for fastening gypsum panels to walls and ceilings?

When nailing to wood construction the spacing is 7 inches for ceilings, and 8 inches for walls. When screwing into wood and steel framing the spacing is 12 inches on ceilings and 16 inches for walls. Refer to the relevant fire test to determine fastener type and spacing.

  • When hanging gypsum panels on the ceiling should the board be applied parallel or perpendicular?

Half-inch panels must be applied perpendicular and 5/8 inches can be applied either way.
