CGC Breaks Ground on Construction of New Alberta Manufacturing Plant
State-of-the-art facility in Wheatland County, Alta., to create hundreds of new jobs and provide Western Canadian builders with ready-access to CGC’s industry-leading Sheetrock® brand wallboard.

CGC is building its most sustainable gypsum wallboard plant in Wheatland County, Alberta. This state-of-the-art facility will produce CGC gypsum wallboard and serve as a key warehousing hub for redistribution to customers across Western Canada and beyond.

Product Design
Giving the Canadian market access to USG Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart Panels for the first time—the lightest and most sustainable wallboard product in the world, by design.

Equipment and Process Innovations
Implementing the latest innovations and cutting-edge technology to optimize operational sustainability, making our end-product even more eco-friendly.
- CGC’s first plant built using zero-waste approach—100% production waste recycled back into manufacturing process, nothing goes to landfill
- High-efficiency gas-fired kiln uses low energy to dry product, recovers evaporated water
- USG technology turns gypsum into stucco using lowest available embodied energy for calcining mill
- High-efficiency lighting throughout plant
Alternate and Renewable Energy
Designed to be the most eco-friendly plant CGC has ever constructed, the plant will feature state-of-the-art innovations that enable efficient wallboard production with minimal water usage, energy consumption, and physical waste. CGC is also building a solar field onsite to generate clean electricity for the plant.

Producing eco-friendly materials in closer proximity to CGC customers to improve sustainability and provide even better, more convenient service at the same time.
- More wallboard product can be shipped to Western Canadian customers at once because of light-weight, slim-profile nature of Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart Panels, reducing total transportation time and emissions to deliver more product
