CGC Inc., a leading building products company is pleased to announce that its innovative new product — CGC Sheetrock® Brand UltraLight Firecode® X is now available in Eastern Canada. This product is the industry's first lightweight ULC listed and cUL Classified product for fire-rated partitions. The 5/8-inch panel is designed to be used for all fire-rated assemblies where Type X board is required.
CGC leads the industry in lightweight gypsum panel technology and is the only manufacturer to offer a portfolio of lightweight products. In addition to the new Type X board, CGC offers ½-inch CGC Sheetrock® Brand UltraLight Panels and 5/8-inch CGC Sheetrock® Brand UltraLight Firecode® 30 panels for nonrated and 30-minute fire-rated partitions.
CGC Sheetrock® Brand UltraLight Firecode® X panels are manufactured in Montreal, Quebec, using propriety technologies developed at the USG Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville, Ill. Like CGC's other lightweight gypsum board products, the new panels weigh less than competitive boards, perform better and are environmentally friendly. They score and snap easily with a higher strength-to-weight ratio and offer better sag resistance while delivering comparable impact resistance performance.
CGC Sheetrock® Brand UltraLight Firecode® X panels are up to 15% lighter than 5/8'' competitive Type X gypsum panels. This innovative panel complies with ASTM C1396 requirements for gypsum board, Type X. It is also the first lightweight gypsum panel listed for use in more than 140 ULC and cUL fire-rated assemblies and can be installed perpendicular to framing with nonstaggered horizontal joints on 25-gauge studs in one-hour fire-rated partitions per ULC Design No. W453.
Combined with the product's lighter weight, the perpendicular installation option allows for faster wall completion and greater productivity for contractors and installers. This new product is environmentally friendly because it requires less water to produce and uses up to 12% less energy than standard 5/8'' Type X panels in manufacturing. For dealers, the lighter weight increases operational efficiencies and enables them to ship up to 17% more panels per truck, reducing fuel consumption.
